NanoDrop® ND-1000 Spectrophotometer Overview
The NanoDrop® ND-1000 UV-Vis Spectrophotometer enables highly accurate analyses of extremely small samples with remarkable reproducibility. The patented sample retention system eliminates the need for cuvettes and capillaries which decreases the measurement cycle time. In addition, the high absorbance capability eliminates the need for most dilutions. You’ll find yourself making fewer dilutions and taking more readings than ever before, essentially becoming a more quantitative laboratory.
Small samples: designed for 1-2 ul samples
Hi absorbance capability: 50 times that of traditional spectrophotometers
No Dilutions for most samples
Full Spectrum (220-750nm)
10 second measurement time
No cuvettes or capillaries
Small size (size of a tissue box)
Easy set up (plug and play)
efficiency & quality
Surface tension is used to hold a column of liquid sample in place while a measurement is made. This is done by pipeting the sample directly onto one measurement pedestal. A measurement column is then drawn between the ends of two optical fibers to establish the measurement path as shown below.
The measurement is made, typically in less than 10 seconds, and the spectrum and its analysis is shown on the screen of the attached PC and archived on the PC.
Once the measurement is complete, the sample is simply wiped from the measurement pedestals. The software enables individual user accounts for easy data segregation. The archived data can be manipulated by a spreadsheet program such as MS Excel.
The ND-1000 offers many benefits over other spectrophotometers:
Technology in Brief
ND-1000 Specifications:
Analysis Modules
The ND-1000 software is designed to make life science analyses fast and convenient. Analyses of quantification of nucleic acid, fluorescent dye, protein and cell cultures are all enabled with this software.
Account Management
Each user of the instrument can be assigned their own username and password which enables the user to specify their user preferences and allows for segregation of that user's archive files. The two initial accounts are "Default" and "Administrator". If the user does not log in, then the "Default" account settings are used.
Archived Data
The data from each measurement is automatically stored in the folder c:\nanodrop data in tab delimited format. The user can open the archive file using a spreadsheet program such as MS Excel.
Utilities and Diagnostics Module
This module enables troubleshooting of the instrument by generating a .jpg screen shot of a spectrum.
